About Thyforon: Thyforon (Levothyroxine Sodium) is used to treat hypotyroidism in dogs. It must not be used in dogs with adrenal insufficiency that has gone uncorrected.
How to use Thyforon
Thyforon (Levothyroxine Sodium) is used to treat hypotyroidism in dogs.
Thyforon Dosage
The usual beginning dose for treatment is 0.1mg (10mcg) per kg of bodyweight twice daily. Your vet may prescribe a different dosage based on the individual characteristics of your dog and the severity of hypothyroidism. Your vet may need to conduct regular tests and adjust the dosage accordingly to reach a clinical improvement.
Thyforon Side Effects
Symptoms of oseoarthritis may be unmasked or intensified through the use of Levothyroxine Sodium.
Most other side effects will be similar to the symptoms of hyperthyroidism, and may indicate a dosage adjustment is necessary.
Thyforon Precautions
Several drugs may interact unfavorably with Levothyroxine Sodium. Before treatment begins, tell your vet if your dog is currently being treated with barbiturates, antacids, anabolic steroids, diazepam, furosemide, mitotane, phenylbutazone, phenytoin, propranolol, salicylates and sulphonamides, oestrogens, ketamine, catecholamines or sympaticomimetics, or digitalis.
Dogs sufering from hypoadrenocorticism are ate a higher rick of thyrotoxicosis. Dogs with poor heart function may be at risk of congestive heart failure.
Thyforon (Levothyroxine Sodium) must not be used in dogs with adrenal insufficiency that has gone uncorrected.
