About Styptic Powder: Styptic Powder (Ferric Subsulfate/Potassium Alum/Zinc Sulphate) for pets is a topical antihemorrhagic agent which is used to stop minor bleeding caused by clipping the nails of dogs, cats or other animals, especially those which have a vein that runs in the center of the nail.

How to use Styptic Powder

Styptic Powder (Ferric Subsulfate/Potassium Alum/Zinc Sulphate) for pets is a topical antihemorrhagic agent which is used to stop minor bleeding caused by clipping the nails of dogs, cats or other animals, especially those which have a vein that runs in the center of the nail. It is widely used by groomers, and many pet owners have also used it on their animal. This product contains potassium alum, which functions as an astringent and causes vasoconstriction (narrowing of blood vessels) where it is applied, thereby stopping the bleeding.

Styptic Powder Dosage

Styptic Powder (Ferric Subsulfate/Potassium Alum/Zinc Sulphate) is used externally. If accidental bleeding occurs, such as that caused by trimming the nails of a pet too short, a sufficient quantity of powder should be administered to the injury. In some cases, it may be necessary to lightly press the animal`s wound, however special care will be needed to ensure that it does not become hurt. Try to prevent the animal from walking for at least 30 minutes, so as to ensure that the blood fully clots. In cases where the bleeding continues after use of the powder, veterinary care will be needed.

Styptic Powder Side Effects

If used on minor wounds caused by nail clipping, Styptic Powder (Ferric Subsulfate/Potassium Alum/Zinc Sulphate) usually does not cause significant side effects. However, if your pet suffers from any side effects, it should be brought to a veterinarian for immediate treatment.

Styptic Powder Precautions

Do not apply this powder to deep cuts or serious wounds. It is also not for use on any sensitive parts of the pet`s body.

This product must never be consumed by the animal, and humans should also never ingest it. Immediate medical care will be needed if this occurs. It is also only to be used to stop bleeding on pets, and is not to be used as a hemostatic for humans.
