How to use Rilexine

Rilexine (Cephalexin) chewable tablets are indicated for superficial pyoderma due to staphylococcus pseudintermedius. The active ingredient in this medicine is classified as a beta lactam antibiotic, and it belongs to the cephalosporin group of antibiotics. It works by binding to proteins called carboxypeptidase and transpeptidase. These proteins are needed for bacterial cell walls to be synthesized.

By binding to them, this antimicrobial helps to disrupt and interfere with the process in which cell walls are synthesized. This helps treat the infection of pyoderma, a condition which causes symptoms such as lesions, hair loss, itching and crusting. Dogs are at an increased risk of this if their skin is cut or wounded, and pet owners are advised to get proper treatment for their animal if its skin is wounded, so as to prevent infection.

Rilexine Dosage

Rilexine (Cephalexin) is provided as 75mg, 300mg or else 600mg strength tablets. Studies have shown them to be highly palatable, and the vast majority of dogs will readily take them from their owner. Each tablet is scored, making them ideal for the veterinarian to adjust the dosage so that it is possible to administer the most suitable and effective amount of medicine. Take your dog to a veterinarian so that the correct dosage can be calculated. In most cases, the veterinarian will calculate the dosage at a rate of 10mg per pound of body weight, given twice per day. The duration of antimicrobial therapy is normally 28 days.
