About Percorten-V: Percorten-V contains the active ingredient desoxycorticosterone pivalate (DOCP). It is indicated for the treatment of mineralocorticoid deficit in dogs who have primary adrenocortical insufficiency.
Percorten-V contains the active ingredient desoxycorticosterone pivalate (DOCP). It is indicated for the treatment of mineralocorticoid deficit in dogs who have primary adrenocortical insufficiency. Percorten-V is offered as a 4mL vial containing 25mg/mL of DOCP.
Each vial contains 4mL of solution with 25mg/mL of DOCP. Single vials can be used for multiple injections.
The vial should be shaken thoroughly and then injected intramuscularly. This should only be performed by a qualified veterinarian.
A starting dosage of 1mg per pound of body weight every 25 days is often used. Dosage can then be adjusted according to the dog`s reaction to treatment.
If Percorten-V is taken at too high a dosage or for too long a period of time it can lead to polyuria, polydipsia, increased blood volume, edema and cardiac enlargement. Other side effects may include anorexia, skin and coat changes, diarrhea, vomiting, weakness, weight loss, incontinence, pain on injection and injection site abscess. If you notice any of these side effects during treatment, contact your vet.
Percorten-V should be used under careful monitoring in cases of congestive heart disease, edema or renal disease. Some dogs may have hypernatremia or hypokalemia when taking Percorten-V.
