About Optimmune: Optimmune Eye Ointment (Cyclosporin) is a veterinary eye medication that is indicated for the treatment and management of chronic idiopathic keratoconjunctivitis sicca (also called KCS or dry eye syndrome) and chronic superficial keratitis in affected dogs.

How to use Optimmune

Optimmune Eye Ointment (Cyclosporin) is a veterinary eye medication that is indicated for the treatment and management of chronic idiopathic keratoconjunctivitis sicca (also called KCS or dry eye syndrome) and chronic superficial keratitis in affected dogs. KCS can cause dryness of the eyes, cornea ulceration and pigmentation of the cornea. This medicine is applied to the eyes and acts as an immunomodulator, helping to suppress inflammation on the surface of the eye and increase aqueous tear production, leading to an improvement in the symptoms of affected dogs. Stopping treatment almost always leads to regression, and for this reason treatment may be needed continuously.

Optimmune Dosage

Affected dogs should be taken to a veterinarian for treatment, and if use of Optimmune Eye Ointment (Cyclosporin) is deemed appropriate, specific information relating to correct application and frequency of administration will be provided to the pet owner. Veterinarians generally recommend applying a quarter inch strop of the ointment to the eye, or if both eyes are affected, each eye will need to be treated. Application may be needed once every 12 hours. Treatment will most likely need to continue on a lifelong basis as the ointment will not cure KCS but merely control its symptoms.

Optimmune Side Effects

Reports of side effects in dogs treated with Optimmune Eye Ointment (Cyclosporin) are rare. Your dog may exhibit signs of mild irritation affecting its eye or eyes. Owners should carefully observe their dog, and it should be brought to a veterinarian for appropriate treatment if it becomes unwell.

Optimmune Precautions

In order to prevent the ointment from becoming contaminated, owners must not touch the tip of the tube or the cap`s inside. Furthermore, the tip of the applicator tube must not be allowed to come into contact with the dog`s eyes, so as to prevent infection.

It is essential to note that this ointment is approved for veterinary use only and must never be used by humans.
