About Irovel: Irovel H (Irbesartan/ Hydrochlorothiazide) is used to treat hypertension. It is a combination drug containing two active ingredients; hydrochlorothiazide and irbesartan. The former is a diuretic that increases production of urine and at the same time increases the rate of salts transferred from the blood into the urine. Fluid levels are reduced in the blood consequently lowering blood pressure. Irbesartan, on the other hand, is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist and works by widening the blood vessels to lower blood pressure.
How to use Irovel
This drug is prescribed for moderate to mild hypertension. Irovel H can also be prescribed when the patient is not responding to other hypertension pills. Take the pills as directed by the doctor. Irovel H 150mg tablets should be taken four hours before going to bed. Taking the pills closer to bedtime means that you will wake up numerous times at night to urinate. This drug takes some time before symptoms go away and it might be up to 4 weeks before any improvement. During this period, do not discontinue the dosage unless advised by the doctor.
Irovel Dosage
Irovel H is prescribed based to the severity of your hypertension. The recommended dose is one 150mg tablet in a day, taken four hours before sleeping. Patients with hypertension should make regular visits to the doctor to get their blood pressure checked and the dosage adjusted accordingly. Do not take two doses at once to cover up for a missed dose.
Irovel Side Effects
This drug has potential side effects including; headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, heart burn, headaches, sore throat, fever symptoms, coughing, running nose, fatigue, jaundice, changes in mood, darker urine, abnormal heart rate, seizures and abnormal weight gain. Report any side effects to your doctor so they can evaluate if a replacement drug is needed.
Irovel Precautions
Always consult with your doctor before taking Irovel H if you are pregnant, expecting to be pregnant, and also if you are using any other medicine, prescription or otherwise. Using Irovel H when pregnant can deform or kill the unborn baby. Patients with kidney problems need the doctor to monitor their blood potassium levels as they undergo treatment with Irovel H tablets. The kidney function should also be closely watched to prevent worsening the kidney disease. If you are suffering or recently recovered from another disease, make the doctor know. People who are allergic to Irovel H and similar drugs should consult their doctor. Signs of an allergic reaction, e.g., swelling, skin rash, hives, etc. warrant a call to the paramedics.
