About Derma-Vet: Derma-Vet Ointment contains nystatin, neomycin sulfate, thiostrepton, and triamcinolone acetonide. It is used to treat a wide variety of cutaneous disorders of cats and dogs, particularly in cases complicated or threatened my bacterial infection or candidal infection.

How to use Derma-Vet


Derma-Vet Ointment contains nystatin, neomycin sulfate, thiostrepton, and triamcinolone acetonide. It is used to treat a wide variety of cutaneous disorders of cats and dogs, particularly in cases complicated or threatened my bacterial infection or candidal infection.

The four ingredients allow Derma-Vet ointment to exhibit four different theraputic effects - anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, antibacterial and antifungal.

Derma-Vet is used to treat:

  • otitis (ear infections) in dogs and cats
  • interdigital cysts in dogs and cats
  • anal gland infections in dogs
  • dermatologic disorders including eczematous dermatitis, contact dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis and dermatitis resulting from parasitic infestation

Derma-Vet Dosage


Dosing schedules will depend on the condition being treated and the severity of symptoms. This may range from two or three times daily to weekly treatments.

Gloves should be worn to avoid contact with skin and reinfection of the area, and hands should be washed immediately after application.

For treating otitis the ear canal must first be cleaned of any cerumen and foreign bodies. Three to five drops of Derma-Vet Ointment should then be applied in the canal.

For treating infected anal glands or cystic areas the gland or cyst must first be drained, then filled with Derma-Vet Ointment.

For treating dermatitis or other dermatologic disorders clean the area thoroughly before applying a thin coat of Derma-Vet Ointment to the area.

Derma-Vet Side Effects


Topical application of Derma-Vet Ointment is usually well tolerated. Some animals can have a sensitivity to neomycin which can cause swelling, redness, itchiness, irritation of the skin. Vomiting and diarrhea may occur in some cases. When used as a treatment for otitis, hearing loss has been reported however this usually regresses after treatment has stopped.

Derma-Vet Ointment is a medicine intended for use on animals only. Under no circumstances should it be taken by humans.

Derma-Vet Ointment is not safe for use by pregnant animals as it can cause fetal death or birth defects.

Derma-Vet Ointment is a topical treatment. It must not be ingested.
