It belongs to a larger group of medicines that are referred to as beta-adrenergic blocking agents. They also can be called beta-blockers which are their common name of beta-blocking agents. Medicines in this category other than treating hypertension can also be used to treat chest pains (angina), prevent a migraine and prevent future attacks for patients suffering from the previous history of heart attacks. It also helps regulate heartbeat rate and is used in the treatment of tremors.
Once you have been prescribed Betaloc and started using it, you are advised not to stop unless it is a recommendation from your doctor. In most cases, abrupt stops are discouraged, and you will find your physician reducing your dosage gradually then completely. This is because some conditions treated by the medicine may become worse if the medicine is stopped abruptly.
Different patients will be prescribed different dosages for their treatment depending on the severity of the symptoms and the condition being treated. Once prescribed, ensure to follow the physician’s prescriptions as labeled. Do not miss any dose especially if you are taking only one dose per day. This may lead to worsening of some conditions. Do not change your dosage unless your physician advises you to do so. Even if your condition is improving, do not alter your dosage.
